The Price of Inequality
Joseph Stiglitz, Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences recipient (2001) , visited Google on June 12, 2012 to talk about his new book, "THE PRICE OF INEQUALITY: How Today's Divided Society Endangers Our Future." Check out his Vanity Fair article (http://goo.gl/u40jE), which he starts out with: "The 1 Percent's Problem "Why won't America's 1 percent—such as the six Walmart heirs, whose wealth equals that of the entire bottom 30 percent—be a bit more . . . selfish? As the widening financial divide cripples the U.S. economy, even those at the top will pay a steep price."
The Price of Inequalityprovides a powerful critique of free-market ideas, but ends hopefully, arguing that 'another world is possible'. It is one of the most important contributions any economist has made in the public arena in recent years.
