Natasha Case and Freya Estreller of Coolhaus visited Google Los Angeles to talk about their new cookbook, "The Coolhaus Ice Cream Book", discuss their ice cream business, and demonstrate their Dirty Mint Chip ice cream.
Natascha Case
While studying architecture at UC Berkeley and then in graduate school at UCLA, co-founder Natasha Case explored a concept she called "Farchitecture", or Food + Architecture. After graduation, she worked as a Disney Imagineer and continued toying with Farchitecture as a hobby—she made cookies and ice cream, and named the combinations after architects.
Freya Estreller
Case met business partner Freya Estreller through friends, who told them they had "the same kind of brain". Estreller liked the idea of architecturally-themed ice cream sandwiches and together they turned the "art project" into a business. Having studied finance at Cornell and working in real estate development, Estreller helped greatly with financial modeling and business operations.
The Coolhaus Ice Cream Book
From a beat-up postal van turned food truck, Coolhaus has rocketed to a national brand. Yahoo! called it “the best ice cream in America.” The inventive sandwiches, named after famous architects, are sold in supermarkets across the country. Coolhaus has drawn accolades from the New York Times, Every Day with Rachael Ray, Time, and Good Morning America.
